British Columbia Ecosystem KBA Analyst

Deb Obrist recently joined WCS Canada as an Ecosystem Key Biodiversity Area (KBA) Analyst for British Columbia, where she identifies rare and threatened ecosystems across the province. She is an interdisciplinary scientist with experience in ecosystem ecology, spatial subsidies, and community ecology. Before joining WCS Canada, she worked as a climate change research ecologist with the BC Ministry of Forests, evaluating climate change impacts to tree species. She holds a PhD from Simon Fraser University, where her research examined how cross-ecosystem nutrient flows impact biodiversity on coastal islands. She has also held postdoctoral positions focused on salmon conservation in BC and tundra ecology in Nunavut.
