Research Associate - Peatland Biogeochemistry

Caitlyn studies how environmental change and human disturbances influence peatland ecology and carbon storage in Canada's boreal zone. Caitlyn has been working in the boreal for 8 years across regions including northern Ontario and the Northwest Territories. Caitlyn is completing her PhD at Wilfrid Laurier University examining how permafrost thaw impacts forest regeneration after wildfire. She has extensive field work experience, is skilled at boreal plant identification, and conducting both observational and experimental field studies. To understand how the boreal is responding to change Caitlyn employs field techniques such as gas flux measurements to measure plant productivity and lab techniques such as molecular analysis, isotopic composition, and soil elemental analysis. Caitlyn is passionate about research in northern ecosystems and is excited to expand our knowledge on boreal peatlands. Her goal is to help minimize the impacts of climate change and human disturbances on these crucial ecosystems.
